Privacy Policy

OpenQuran.app is a free project for reading the Noble Quran. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.

Information we collect

Search queries. When you use the AI search, the text you type is sent to a third-party AI service provider so it can generate relevant surah and verse suggestions. We log search queries together with basic request details (see below) to operate the feature, monitor quality, and prevent abuse.

Request and technical data. Like most websites, our servers record standard request information such as your IP address, browser and device type (user agent), the pages or endpoints requested, and timestamps. We use this to rate-limit requests, keep the service secure, and diagnose problems.

Feedback. If you send feedback, we receive your message and, if you choose to provide it, your email address. Feedback is stored as an issue in our project's issue tracker (hosted by a third-party code-hosting provider) so we can review and respond to it.

Analytics. We use a privacy-friendly analytics service to understand aggregate, anonymous usage (for example, which pages are popular). It does not build advertising profiles of you.

On-device data. Your bookmarks, reading settings, and reading progress are stored locally in your browser. This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers.

How we use information

  • To provide AI search and return relevant results.
  • To protect the service through rate limiting, abuse prevention, and security monitoring.
  • To diagnose issues and improve the reading experience.
  • To review and respond to feedback you send us.

Displaying searches

We may highlight popular or interesting search topics on the site to help people discover what others explore in the Quran. When we do, we show only the query text in aggregated or anonymized form; we do not publish IP addresses or other identifying details alongside it. Please avoid including any personal or sensitive information in your searches.

Third-party services

We rely on trusted third parties to run the site, including an AI service provider for search, a hosting and analytics provider, a code-hosting provider for feedback, and a public API for Quran text, translations, and recitations. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies.

Data retention

We keep request logs and search queries only as long as needed for the purposes described above, then delete or aggregate them. Feedback is kept for as long as it is useful to the project.

Your choices

  • You can use the site without ever using AI search.
  • You can clear on-device data (bookmarks, settings, progress) by clearing your browser storage for this site.
  • You can ask us about the data associated with feedback you sent, or request its removal, through our feedback form.

Children

OpenQuran.app is intended for a general audience and is safe for all ages. We do not knowingly collect more personal information than described above from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
